There is something primordially disturbing about doing something inappropriate to create life, like in "Frankenstein". Regarding the South Korean short, I have noticed other films from that country can have very coarse humour, extreme characterizations and melodramatic plot lines. I think that's why the girl seems so nasty. I have watched a couple of South Korean feature films and therefore feel free to make sweeping generalizations. ;) Misplaced Thoughtshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17553924632585919026noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6755842910804359355.post-71949725800823702272017-11-21T16:14:04.038-08:002017-11-21T16:14:04.038-08:00Yep. Magnificent staging, great work from orchestra, solid singing, and thought-provoking in all the right ways. As it happens, a friend in Houston was one of the crane operators that brought the giants to life. I'm not exactly a newcomer to opera (I've seen hundreds over the last 60 years, including many Ring Cycles), but I couldn't agree with you more about the HGO's collaboration with the group from Barcelona. Wonderful in every way, and Wagner's music makes sense in the context of an actual stage performance. Loved the three I saw. My quibble was with the wood nymphs. They were costumed in school girl skirts and cardigans; first they got beat up by Jebizbaba's assistants, then later they disrobed while teasing the water goblin.
